Welcome to the British Association of Head and Neck Oncology Nurses web site. We hope you like it!
BAHNON exists to facilitate networking between nurses working within the field of head and neck cancer, in order to share ideas and promote good practice.
It is run by a committee of ten nurses who do this in addition to their own full time jobs.
To get started, you can download our Vision, Objectives and Strategy guide. (PDF file)
On this site we aim to help nurses and AHPs share information on best practice, for example guidelines and patient information ideas. These are provided by members who generously wish to share with others. Please feel free to download these and use as you see fit, but in return, please share your own work. We add new documents and news nearly every week so add this site to your Favourites list so you can check it regularly.
The BAHNON Conference
2013 sees another BAHNON conference which will take place in Manchester on June 14th. The will be an exciting speaker programme which will look all areas of the head and neck cancer pathway with an emphasis on survivorship issues. The conference has gone from strength to strength over the years and is a fabulous opportunity to hear about novel innovations in head and neck cancer nursing as well as providing an opportunity to network with your peers.
The committee is very aware that study leave is fast becoming a luxury for nurses across the UK and that funding is equally difficult to come by but if there is one conference that you attend in 2014, let if be the BAHNON one. There are grants available from BAHNON, Macmillan and often the medical reps can assist with funding so think creatively about how to fund your application and enjoy a day of learning.
As usual we welcome abstracts for posters and presentations from our members. Keep an eye on the website for abstract templates which will be uploaded imminently but also look out for them in your newsletter which is on its way. You may want to present work from your Masters, a recent audit or a service evaluation that you have completed - the committee will look at all applications on an individual basis.
For further information on the conference please contact our Conference Secretary Annette on Annette.Beasley@wales.nhs.uk
